If you could change one thing in history what would it be and why?
I wish Mr. Christopher Columbus had known what a continent he had found and united to the map of the world! Would be interesting to know what the Americas would be called in that case.
What is something that you’ve always wanted to try but have been too scared to?
Skydiving. Looks divine but I’m not going to do it. Ever.
What subject did you like at school (if any), and did that define your career in any way?
Swedish. I don’t feel it defined anything but all my career I have worked in cooperation with the Nordic countries.
I come from a Finnish midsized town, where Swedish was not spoken but I genuinely liked this language that I think is one of the easiest to start with.
Swedish is a compulsory school subject in Finland, as the Republic of Finland has two official languages: Finnish and Swedish. 5% of the population speaks Swedish as their mother tongue and there are areas on the west coast where Finnish is not really commonly spoken. (Not even all Swedes know this, btw.)
An interesting fact is that Jean Sibelius’ was Swedish-speaking although he was highly intrigued by Finnish ancient stories and culture, from where he drew his amazing national romantic pieces of music. Any language is just a means of communicating. It does not define one’s soul or nationality.
